What we’re really doing when we pronounce some author good or bad is stating an opinion of their ability to consistently deliver good stories with satisfying conclusions.
Assuming you want to be a good writer, you must understand that mastering the craft is necessary but not sufficient. Nor will an occasional burst of brilliance do. The patience and balance we’ve discussed provide the essential foundation for consistent storytelling and satisfying conclusions.
